There’s just something about sunsets over the water.
Living on Cape Cod provides PLENTY of opportunity for glass ideas – the sky lights up in pinks, oranges, bold and pastel colors, the water is calm/rough, and the beach itself showing ever evolving and overlapping dunes.
Thankfully, it’s a different show nightly and it never ceases to amaze. Summer visitors crowd the parking lot and will clap just as the sun dips below the horizon – as if it’s a stage presentation – open every night at a beach near you!
This piece has its origins at Skaket Beach and riffs on a similar piece – Nauset Beach. It measures 20″ x 14″ and includes a shade under 100 pieces.
In this piece, the design included both water and beach, though the main focus was to explore the sky colors. The pattern involved rays of fading sunshine as well as concentric arcs to explore the interplay of that fading sunlight with clouds on the horizon.
It turned out to be quite the jigsaw puzzle – keeping careful account about the placement of each piece.
And, the color choices – even within a single glass sheet – were many. Lights and darks within the same glass sheet offered many options and choices for each design piece.
Putting it all together, solder up and frame it within a white border.
The best part?
When the late afternoon sun hits the piece, the colors pop – accentuating the sun’s light show with it’s own colors. What do you think?
