Commissions

Probably the most fascinating aspect of my studio work is commission work – when someone has a specific piece or vision in mind or they have a specific function they’re trying to fill. Either way, there’s a germ of an idea of something.

Commission projects appeal to my “goal orientation” and problem solving – combining the wants and vision of the commissioner with the aesthetic, the function, and other aspects of the piece designed to tickle their emotions to create a piece for their satisfaction, delight, and enjoyment for years to come.

Each commission piece is unique, often reflecting the very specific needs, taste, and asthetic of the commissioner. Tweezing out their needs and vision is a process – a very active process of back and forth, attempting to first put words to their ideas, and then pencil to paper to visualize those ideas.

At times, it can be a frustrating process, both for the commissioner (“I can’t find the words” feelings) and for myself (“I’ve attempted this multiple ways and I’m still not able to echo your vision”). Patience and trusting “the process” leads to positive results (yes, that’s my “coaching” voice).

What’s on your mind? What have you envisioned? Let’s talk.
