Necklace Rack

Necklace racks are notoriously messy. Chains getting intertwined or the height never quite enough, causing chains to tangle on the table top – these and other necklace rack fails just leaves a mess.

Necklaces are beautiful pieces – often works of art in their own right – and are meant to be shown, regardless of worn or simply displayed. The inspiration with this piece was to unwind the problem of tangled chains, creating a piece of artwork with the subtly-bend wood.

The piece shown here is a laminated arm of walnut, maple, and wenge with a horizontal walnut backing. It mounts flush to the wall.

I’ve since explored the theme with a few other wood pairings – experimenting with the light-dark contrast with maple, cherry, walnut, and wenge, as well as exploring the shaping a bit.

I’ve yet to try a figured block on the wall, expecting the necklace chains would detract from the wood’s figuring. We’ll see what the future brings.
