A recent kitchen remodel included a pantry with a glass-fronted doors for a wine and crystal glasses.

As a commission project, the desire was to add color and movement to the glass – creating a statement piece in the kitchen. The challenge was to “make a statement” – which brightly colored stained glass is good for – while still enabling the some visibility into the contents of the cabinet.

Since the cabinet held wine glasses, it seemed only fitting to design around a grape vine! What better way to hint at the cabinet contents!

The design mimics a real grape vine which, as many know, often has many kinks and elbows entangled with many offshoots. Some of those offshoots and kinks produce grape bunches, but not all. And, for anyone who’s had a grape vine, it’s a never ending task to trim back the dead wood and offshoots.

From a design and build perspective, the nature of the vines created an easy way to incorporate the natural breaks between pieces of glass.

The project really came together well – creating a statement, adding light and activity to an otherwise drab looking pantry.
