This piece evokes the softness of a comforted baby in the light of the moon. Our first grandchild was on the way – so of course, we wanted to create a piece for them!

Starry nights and a crescent moon, falling to sleep in the welcoming arms of the moon.

Besides the subject and the thoughts and dreams of swaddled babies brings, I love the way the moon’s glass picks up different lights. It’s a frosted hue, naturally glowing with minimal backlighting, clearly seen in the photo below.

I also wanted this piece to be able to stand freely, for those situations when it can’t be hanging in a window.

in soft light, the moon appears

To do that, I designed a table stand, made from Maple and Walnut, with slotted arms and a base, enabling the piece to be free standing.

And to that, I added a “light box”, bringing in a bit of backlighting when the piece can’t be hung in a window.

Warm light, and comforting images.

And, after the baby arrived, it was just perfect for naps and such.
