As part of a Boston home remodel, this piece was developed as a companion piece to a Stairwell Window project.
It borrows from the same pattern as that stairwell and is also recycles the gold and teal colored glass from the Mount Vernon Church on Mass Ave in Boston which was tragically lost to fire in the late 70’s.
This was mainly a restoration project, perhaps better described as a reclamation project. Some of the glass pieces in the original windows were cracked and, due to the age and unknown origin of the original glass pieces, replacement was likely out of the question.
Instead, by repurposing some of the original glass – mainly the yellow and light teal – we were able to breath new life into the originals, and keep in style with typical Boston Victorians of the early 20th century.
To imagine the full effect in the home, both this piece and its companion were in the same stairwell – this transom piece at the bottom of the stairs, and the stairwell piece on the left while ascending to the 2nd level.
